Chow Tai Fook store, Hong Kong

Chow Tai Fook

Chow Tai Fook is a Hong Kong-based conglomerate that owns a popular jewelry chain that goes by the same name, but the parent company also has holdings in industries as diverse as telecommunications, transportation, and property development, including hotels and casinos.

The Chow Tai Fook jewelry chain, which traces its origins back to 1929, is one of the largest in China, and it in fact led the country in sales from 2005 to 2009. The firm has stores in a number of countries – it first opened a store in Macau in 1938 – but it’s strongest presence is in mainland China, where in September 2010 it surpassed the 1,000-store mark; it is now on pace to achieve its objective of opening at least 2,000 Chow Tai Fook stores in China by the year 2020.

Despite its incredible popularity in the Chinese-speaking world, it is little-known in the West. Chow Tai Fook’s subsidiary Zlotowski’s owns one of the world’s most famous polished diamonds, the 507-carat Cullinan Heritage.
