INDIAN GOVERNMENT WANTS TO BRING BACK KOH-I-NOOR DIAMOND IN AN AMICABLE MANNER

Contrary to reports that the government of India has relinquished claims to the Koh-I-Noor diamond, the country’s Ministry of Culture has issued a clarification explaining that the government resolves ‘to make all possible efforts to bring back the Koh-I-Noor diamond in an amicable manner’.

Recent statements by the Solicitor General of India, which explained the country’s relinquishing of claims to the diamond and were widely reported in the media, did not include the views of the country’s government, notes the clarification.

“With regard to the Koh-I-Noor diamond, the Government of India remains hopeful for an amicable outcome whereby India gets back a valued piece of art with strong roots in our nation’s history,” says the government statement.
