La Gloria, from the Marcial de Gomar Collection

ROUGH EMERALD WEIGHING 887 CARATS TO LEAD NEW YORK AUCTION IN APRIL

“La Gloria”, a rough emerald weighing 887 carats, will be a leading lot at the Guernsey’s auction in New York on April 25, Rough & Polished reports.

According to Guernsey’s, “La Gloria” is one of the largest museum-quality emeralds in the world. It was mined in the Muzo mines of Colombia and collected by Manuel Marcial de Gomar, “a veteran of the gemstone business and founder of Emeralds International”, according to the report.

Several other rough and cut emeralds will also be auctioned, including the “Marcial de Gomar Star” – also collected by de Gomar, which Guernsey’s has described as “the largest recorded star emerald and one of only 11 in the world”.
