Debswana’s rough sales were up by 24.2% to a record $4.588 billion in 2022 “as buyers shunned Russian goods,” according to a report in IDEX Online.
Debswana, a joint venture between Anglo American business De Beers and the Botswana government, operates Jwaneng, “the richest diamond mine in the world by value, and accounts for almost all of the country’s diamond production,” according to the report. Botswana is the world’s second biggest producer after Russia.
In 2021, rough sales totaled $3.47 billion. In 2020, rough sales totaled $2.12 billion.
A recent list by miningintelligence.com named the Jwaneng diamond mine, in Botswana, as the world’s richest diamond mine for the first three quarters of 2022. Jwaneng produced 10.3 million carats in 2022.
