INDIA: POLISHED DIAMOND EXPORTS FLAT IN FEBRUARY

Data released by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) shows that exports of cut and polished diamonds remained flat in February, rising 0.51% year-on-year to $2.43 billion. Exports from the gems and jewelry sector dropped 7.38% year-on-year to $3.67 billion.

 

Rough imports rose 11.35% year-on-year to $1.68 billion. In volume terms, rough imports totaled 16.8 million carats. Imports of cut and polished diamonds were down 11.7% year-on-year to $158.31 million.

 

For the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2017-18, overall gem and jewelry exports declined 3.63% year-on-year to $37.6 billion. Polished diamond exports during April 2017-Feb 2018 were up 3.78% year-on-year to $21.71 billion.
