A historic 170.2-carat pink gem, believed to be the largest pink diamond found in the last 300 years, was sold for an undisclosed sum at tender in Angola, according to IDEX Online.

Lucapa Diamond found the rare 170.2-carat pink Type IIa diamond, dubbed “The Lulo Rose”, at its 40%-owned Lulo mine in Angola in August. The gem was among seven specials found at Lulo and sold for a total of $20.4 million, according to Sodiam, Angola’s national diamond trading company.

The tender was held online, and achieved an average price per carat of $26,536. It sold 43 diamonds (a total of 1,819.79 carats) from Catoca, Luele and Lulo mines, raising a total of $28.7 million.
