Short, but Sweet: The History of the Merlin Diamond Mine

The Merlin diamond mine, one of only three diamond mines in Australia, is located in the Northern Territory of Australia, about 100 kilometers south of Borroloola. The mine comprises of 14 kimberlite pipes, of which nine were subject to open-pit mining.

Merlin operated for a period of about five years, from 1998 to 2003. During that time, according to Merlin Diamonds website, the mine produced 507,000 carats of high quality diamonds.

During its short operational life, Merlin produced some impressive white diamonds and large specials, the largest being a 104.73 stone.
