Brilliant Earth is a Bay Area diamond company that was founded on the premise that it is possible to provide top-quality polished diamond jewelry and at the same time have a clear conscience about the business practices throughout the diamond supply chain. The firm’s two founders, Beth Gerstein and Eric Grossberg, met at nearby Stanford University where they both studied.
When Beth got engaged to her finance Alex, she was forced to take responsibility for the ethical implications of her engagement ring purchase. At the same time, Eric researched the ways in which alternative arrangements could ensure that both the people living on the land where rough diamonds are sourced, and the land, sea and air itself, can be protected and prosper.
The company uses recycled gold and platinum identical in quality to just-mined material, and it contributes 5% of their profits to African communities ravaged by previous unsustainable mining practices. Brilliant Earth conducts business online and out of its boutique headquarters in downtown San Francisco.
