The Israel Diamond Institute

The Israel Diamond Institute is a non-profit, public interest company acting, along with several other companies, to promote and advance the diamond industry in Israel and to position Israel as a leading world diamond center.

The IDI Group of Companies is active in various fields, including technological research and development, PR and marketing, professional training and security consulting. IDI also publishes professional literature, a trade magazine and maintains a website.

The Israel Diamond Institute operates via a board of directors, which represents the government, the Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association, the Israel Diamond Exchange, the Histadrut Labor Federation and various banks operating in the industry.

The Israel Diamond Institute, which is owned by diamantaires (75%) and the government (25%), is funded through the taxes paid on polished diamond imports, which are collected by the Diamond Comptroller’s Office.

The Israel Diamond Institute has several subsidiaries, including a Technological Institute, the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum, a gemological laboratory and liaison offices in New York and Hong Kong.

The Technological Institute is a wholly-owned IDI subsidiary, which focuses on improving and upgrading manufacturing technology and developing new tools. The Institute has developed measuring, polishing and cutting systems in collaboration with the diamond industry and its sister-industries.

The Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum, located at the heart of the Diamond Exchange compound in Ramat Gan, showcases the Israeli diamond industry’s achievements and offers visitors a fascinating review of the world’s most precious mineral.

The Israel Diamond Institute’s first international office is located in the heart of the New York diamond district. It serves as a “home away from home” for many Israeli diamantaires operating in the United States.

The Hong Kong office was opened in 2007 and manages the trade with China and the Far East, in accordance to IDI strategy.
