London Assortment

The term ‘London Assortment’ is derived from the DTC method for sorting rough diamonds. It is called thus because London, England is the center of DTC operations and most of the sorting work has taken place there for many years.

The rough diamonds produced by De Beers mines all over the world, and the rough diamonds which are brought to De Beers as a result of business contracts, go through a very thorough sorting into thousands of different classifications. These groupings are collected into different diamond packages on the basis of the size and shape of the rough diamond, the color and clarity of the stone, according to exact quantities, with no connection to their geographical origin. These packages are called London Assortment.

The advantage of the London Assortment is its ability to create near-identical packages of rough diamonds over time for DTC customers, called Sightholders. This consistency allows Sightholders to plan their manufacturing of polished diamonds according to specific regular orders, or even to change them by matching them to the exact contents of the rough diamond packages.
