The Online Gem Giant: The Story of Blue Nile
Blue Nile, the world’s largest online retailer of certified diamonds and fine jewelry and a publicly traded company, was founded in 1999. On the website, customers can find high-quality diamonds and create their own jewelry by choosing to set their chosen stone in earrings, pendants and rings. According to Blue Nile, every order is shipped free, guaranteed and returnable within 30 days.
The online giant has also embarked on the bricks and mortars concept in recent times by operating webrooms. Blue Nile explains that webrooms differ from traditional jewelry store by having a low overhead, non-commissioned consultants, and the ability to offer great quality and huge selection while maintaining the advantages of online prices. A Blue Nile webroom is already operational in New York, and others will open soon in Virginia and in White Plains, New York.
