Off-Mall, On Target: The Story of Jared Jewelers
Jared the Galleria of Jewelry, more commonly known as Jared, opened in 1993. Today, it has 253 stores across 39 US states, all strategically located outside malls and on sites with high visibility and traffic flow.
According to its website, Jared is the largest specialty retail jeweler in the world, offering five times the selection of ordinary jewelry stores for affordable prices. Every Jared store has an on-site design and repair center where most repairs, so it promises, are completed within one hour. The facility also mounts loose diamonds in settings and provides a custom design service.
In 2015, according to the Signet Group’s website, Jared accounted for 21% of Signet’s sales with sales of $1.2 billion and average sales per store of $4.8 million. Jared also operates an outlet-mall concept known as Jared Vault; these stores are smaller than the off-mall Jared stores, and offer outlet-specific products at lower prices.
