The topaz is one of the most familiar, popular and oldest gemstones in the world. Topaz is a silicate mineral that contains fluorine and aluminum, and comes in a variety of colors, the most common being yellow.
However, there are some rarer types of topaz in green, blue and red as well as transparent gemstones.
Topaz stones are usually crystallized in a quadrangle form, and their hardness level is 8, which makes them ideal for jewelry.
The origin of the word topaz apparently comes from the Greek word Topazus (to seek), or from the Sanskrit word Tapaz, which means fire.
These gemstones are produced in Australia, the United States, Brazil, East Asia and parts of Africa.
