For the last fourteen years, fifty-year-old jewelry designer Ippolita Rostagno has been making waves on the New York scene.
Determined to fill in what she saw as a gaping void in our culture – the tendency of most people to only wear traditional style jewelry, and only then on special occasions – Rostagno dedicated her efforts to creating jewelry that is hip and can be worn on an occasion, or no occasion.
Rostagno was born in Florence, Italy, but also has American citizenship on account of one American parents, an artist. After a traditional upbringing in rural Tuscany, Rostagno returned to Florence to earn a baccalaureate degree in sculpture.
Continuing her studies in Los Angeles from the age of 18, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Literature and founded a dance company. Following those adventures, she moved to New York City, where she founded her jewelry enterprise, titling it after her own unique given name, Ippolita.
Much of Rostango’s work, including stackable bangles, layering necklaces, earrings and pendants, are made from gold, silver and resin. Her work is sold at high-end retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Harrods.
