Cleanish is a term that relates to the lack of faults in diamonds. For reasons of efficiency, it is acceptable to rank the clarity of sets of diamonds of medium size or smaller – from 20 pointers to 60 pointers – according to the general rankings based of a few stones, applying them to the whole set, and not according to the clarity of each individual diamond separately.
The highest ranking is a set with the rank “Very Good Clarity”. Next is a combination of clean diamonds with a small amount of diamonds with small clarity faults. Such a set will be classified as ‘cleanish’. The combination of diamonds with high-clarity and a few diamonds of lesser quality makes it easier to estimate the value of the diamonds and make it more marketable. Therefore, in many cases, this type of set is more desirable than a set in which the clarity level is greater.
