Proportions refer to the relation between the various angles found on polished diamonds. Nowadays, there is no need to polish diamonds according to their original rough forms. As a result, a number of methods based on complex optics have been developed over the previous decades which focus on the diamonds’ end-stage quality and shininess.
Many studies have been conducted to explore this issue and the optimal proportions between diamond size and different angles on rough diamonds. Results from some of these studies are used today as models in leading gemological laboratories.
