Trapezoid, or trapeze, is a unique style of cut for diamonds which is more suited to larger sized stones. Constructing the angles of a trapezoid is a complicated undertaking and requires the intricate skills of a master craftsman in order to achieve the maximum level of precision and symmetry on all sides of the diamond.
Most trapezoid cut diamonds are used as pairs and are intended for use as side stones that enhance a larger central stone on rings (Solitaire).
The Trapezoid Cut for diamonds evolved from the Taper and Baguette Cuts. The latter were developed some time ago in order to extract maximum utilization from rough diamonds that were short and wide in shape.
