Anglo American has announced the value of rough diamond sales (Global Sightholder Sales and Auction Sales) for De Beers’ fifth sales cycle of 2018, amounting to $575 million. Cycle 4 amounted to $550 million, cycle 3 amounted to $520 million, and cycle 2 amounted to $555 million. In the first cycle of the year, De Beers raked in $665 million.
CEO of De Beers Bruce Cleaver said: “Sentiment in the diamond industry’s midstream is positive following the JCK Las Vegas trade show at the start of the month, and we continued to see good demand for our rough diamonds across the product range”.
In 2017, De Beers’ revenue fell 4% to $5.8 billion. The fall, according to De Beers, was “expected, given the benefit of strong midstream restocking in the first half of 2016”. For 2018, De Beers expects to produce 34-36 million carats.
