Global miner Rio Tinto has released its second quarter production results, reporting a rise in diamond production at both its Argyle mine in Australia and its Diavik mine in Canada.
Diamond production at Argyle rose 8% year-on-year to 3,476,000 carats “due to an increase in tonnes processed following improved plant availability”. For the first half of the year, production at Argyle rose 13% year-on-year to 7,027,000 carats.
At Diavik, carats recovered in the second quarter of 2018 were 3% higher year-on-year to 1,150,000 carats “due to higher plant throughput”. For the first half of the year, production at Diavik was down 2% to 2,214,000 carats.
