HISTORIC 51.38-CARAT DYNASTY DIAMOND SOLD AT AUCTION

Alrosa has announced the sale of the Dynasty diamond at a public auction on August 2. Alrosa failed to sell the stone in November 2017. According to Diamond World, the diamond was bought by the privately held Swiss and Emirati luxury goods company the Mouawad Group, who called the stone “a rare gem with a remarkable record”.

The Dynasty diamond, the central diamond of a collection bearing the same name, is a 51.38-carat traditional round brilliant-cut diamond, D color (colorless), VVS1 clarity (with no inclusions), and is the “purest of all large diamonds manufactured throughout the Russian jewelry history”, according to Alrosa. Introduced by Alrosa in August 2017, the Dynasty collection is made up of five diamonds created from a 179-carat rough diamond named The Romanovs, and recovered from the Nyurbinskaya kimberlite pipe in Yakutia in 2015.

The total revenue from the sale of the Dynasty collection amounted to about $10 million. Following the sale, the Dynasty diamond has officially become the most expensive stone ever sold by Alrosa, although the miner hasn’t disclosed the final selling price. Alrosa CEO Sergey Ivanov commented that Alrosa “will keep on working and introducing new diamond collections to the market”.
