The largest collection of Australian pink diamonds ever shown in the world – over 100 Australian pink diamonds – is now on display at Melbourne Museum, Australia, according to IDEX Online. “Pink Diamonds” will run until January 29, 2023.
Most of the diamonds come from the iconic Argyle mine, “collected over three decades by New York based LJ West Diamonds,” according to the report. Among the highlighted gems is the 2.83-carat Argyle Violet, “the only stone in history to carry a violet color grading […] and hundreds of times rarer than a pink.”
Dermot Henry, Deputy Director, Sciences Division of Research and Collections at Museums Victoria, commented: “Our planet created these flawless diamonds over 1.6 billion years ago. Finding a pink diamond is like retrieving the needle from the haystack. Only one carat in every million will display this intense pink color. They remind us how truly wonderful nature is.”
