“Fortune Pink” Diamond Sells for $28.8 Million

On November 8, at its Magnificent Jewels auction, Christie’s Geneva offered an 18.18-carat gem called “Fortune Pink” – the largest pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond ever to be auctioned, with an estimate of $25 million to $35 million. According to IDEX Online, the gem sold for $28.8 million, thus missing its high estimate of $35 million.

The rare gem was bought by an unnamed Asian private collector. According to Max Fawcett, head of Christie’s jewelry department in Geneva, there had been “a huge amount of interest in the stone.”

Prior to the sale, Christie’s Geneva said of the “Fortune Pink”: “With its auspicious weight of 18.18 carats (which translates to definite prosperity) this exceptional pink diamond of phenomenal color will certainly bring good fortune to its new owner.”
