Figures recently published by India’s GJEPC (Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council) and quoted by IDEX Online show that India’s overall gross export of cut & polished diamonds went down 26% to total $1.89 billion in October.
Polished imports fell 23.4%, totalling $99.2 million. Overall exports across the whole gem and jewelry sector totaled $3.13 billion in October – a fall of 22.4% year-on-year.
For April to October, exports fell 5.5% to $14.1 billion, “evidence that the slowdown is becoming more significant,” according to the report.
