Two Rolex Daytona watches, previously owned by the legendary actor Paul Newman and his wife, the acclaimed actress Joanne Woodward, are anticipated to fetch $1 million each at an upcoming auction. The June sale by Sotheby’s New York will feature a total of 300 lots from the estate of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, as reported by IDEX Online.
One piece is a white gold 1993 Zenith Daytona – a gift to Newman from his wife Joanne. On the caseback, there’s an inscription that reads: “Drive very slowly”. The second watch, also a Zenith Daytona, was presented to Newman when he was 70, after he became the oldest winner in his category of the 1995 Daytona Race in Florida.
According to Sotheby’s, the series of sales will offer “film and entertainment memorabilia, automotive and racing collectables, family photographs, antique furniture, as well as fine decorative arts collected by the couple during their 50-year marriage.”
In 2017, a Rolex owned by Newman sold for $17.8 million at Phillips New York, a world record price for a watch at auction.
