Guinness World Records has officially recognized the achievement of crafting the world’s largest cut tanzanite into a large sculpture, Diamond World reports.
Dubbed “L’Heure Bleu,” the remarkable 703.4 carat tanzanite sculpture is mounted on a sterling silver base “with an elegant twist.” It was crafted by New York-based artist Naomi Sarna. The proceeds from the sale of the statue will contribute to supporting the Casey Eye Institute’s initiatives, aiming to deliver “essential eye care services to the Maasai community in Tanzania,” according to the report.
Tanzanite, celebrated for its hues of green, red, purple, and blue, is among the newest and rarest gemstones, exceeding diamonds in scarcity. Unveiled to the world by Tiffany & Co. in 1968 as Tanzanite, this gem is sourced solely from a limited region near the Mererani Hills, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
