The Allnatt Diamond, a Fancy Vivid Yellow gem weighing 101.29 carats, is set to go under the hammer at Sotheby’s Geneva today (May 14th), according to IDEX Online.
Featuring a unique flowerhead design with brilliant-cut diamond-set petals, the Allnatt diamond is expected to fetch between $6.2 million to $7.2 million at auction.
Formerly owned by British racehorse owner and art collector Major Alfred Ernest Allnatt, the diamond is renowned for its stunning color and rarity. Originating from South Africa and originally purchased in the 1950s, it was later transformed into a brooch by Cartier.
Previously auctioned in Geneva in May 1996 as ‘Property of a Lady,’ the diamond fetched just over $3 million. Initially weighing 102.07 carats and graded fancy intense yellow by the GIA, it underwent repolishing, resulting in its current weight of 101.29 carats and a color upgrade to Fancy Vivid Yellow.
