Two Rare Blue Diamonds Sell for More Than $8 Million Each at Christie’s

Rare blue diamonds were among the highlights of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on June 9, with two stones surpassing the $8 million mark.

The top lot was the 31.62-carat Azure Blue, a Fancy Vivid Blue pear-shaped diamond that achieved $8.37 million. Christie’s described the gem as the largest fancy blue diamond ever offered at auction.

Another standout was a 5.04-carat Fancy Vivid Blue marquise-shaped diamond, which sold for $8.13 million. At approximately $1.61 million per carat, the stone achieved a per-carat price more than six times higher than that of the Azure Blue.

Both gems are Type IIb diamonds, a category associated with some of the world’s rarest blue stones.

Christie’s reported total auction sales of $49.7 million, with every lot sold and overall results reaching 149% of the sale’s low estimate.
