ISRAEL: SCHOOL PUPILS HELP UNEARTH 900 YEAR-OLD JEWELRY

2,500 student volunteers, ranging from 4th to 12 grade, are now part of history: According to the Israel Antiquities Authority, these pupils helped unearth a rare jewelry collection at an excavation site in Tittora Hill in Modi’in.

According to several news reports, the jewelry probably belonged to a woman from the Middle Ages (around 900 years ago), and includes bronze and silver rings, bracelets and earrings.

Tittora Hill was the seat of an ancient Crusader fortress. The students and volunteers from the city of Modi’in have helped exposed its inner courtyard, where the inhabitants cooked. Along with the jewelry uncovered in the areas of the kitchen, the excavators also uncovered clay ovens, utensils and a table.
