Eight diamonds were discovered to be stolen from the Sree Padmanabha Swamy idol in the temple in Thiruvananthapuram in India, according to several news reports.
The theft was reported to the Supreme Court by an advocate in charge of bringing transparency in the temple, and the matter is being investigated by police. According to the report, the diamonds stolen are part of daily rituals in the temple.
The theft was discovered in May 2017, when the temple treasurer checked the valuables. Though the stones are officially estimated at 21 Lakhs (about $35,000), the advocate said they are actually worth much more due to their antiquity.
