Russian diamond mining giant Alrosa will open the ALROSA Environmental Center in February 2018, according to Rough & Polished. The center will “develop the company’s environmental strategy” for all of Alrosa’s divisions.
Since “ecology is a strategically important area of its activity”, according to the company, the new specialized center will “ increase the efficiency of the company’s environmental efforts”, which are currently supervised by different specialists working in each division. These specialists will be transferred to the new facility once it becomes operational early next year.
The Environmental Center will focus on several areas, from “the introduction of a geo-information monitoring system” to “the creation of an analytical database”, among others. Polina Anisimova, Deputy Chief Engineer of Alrosa on environmental issues, commented that the Environmental Center “will allow [Alrosa] to achieve higher environmental rankings at a new qualitative level, to move from “passive response” to “active anticipation” […]”.
