ALROSA AMONG TOP 3 ENVIRONMENTAL MINERS IN RUSSIA

Russian mining giant Alrosa is ranked among the top three companies in the environmental responsibility rating of the Russian mining and smelting companies, the company has announced.

 

The environmental responsibility rating, jointly developed by the World Wildlife Fund, United Nations Development Programme, Global Environment Facility, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, assesses each company by three parameters: Environmental Management, Environmental Impact, and Disclosure/Transparency, which included over 30 different criteria. 33 companies are ranked.

 

Last week, Alrosa announced its intention to establish the ALROSA Environmental Center in February 2018. The center will “develop the company’s environmental strategy” for all of Alrosa’s divisions. The Environmental Center will focus on several areas, from “the introduction of a geo-information monitoring system” to “the creation of an analytical database”, among others. Polina Anisimova, Deputy Chief Engineer of Alrosa on environmental issues, commented that the Environmental Center “will allow [Alrosa] to achieve higher environmental rankings at a new qualitative level, to move from “passive response” to “active anticipation” […]”.
