DELL TURNS OLD MOTHERBOARDS INTO GOLD JEWELRY COLLECTION

At CES 2018, held in Las Vegas earlier this month, PC maker Dell unveiled a new gold jewelry collection made from discarded Dell motherboards. According to Art of Jewellery, Dell partnered with Hollywood actress Nikki Reed, co-founder of Bayou with Love, to create the new collection.

Dubbed the Circular Collection by Bayou with Love and Dell, the new limited jewelry collection is made in the US, sourced from gold, and recovered from Dell’s recycling programs. The collection includes 14 and 18-carat gold rings, earrings and cufflinks.

According to Dell, only 12.5% of e-waste is recycled into other products. It estimates that “Americans throw away $60 million in gold and silver every year through unwanted phones alone”. During the unveiling, Nikki Reed said: “By recycling gold that was once considered ‘waste,’ Dell and I are working to create an environment where we continuously reuse resources and strive for zero waste”.
