The Met Gala has always been known for producing some iconic diamond looks, and the 2023 event was no exception. From Dua Lipa’s updated Tiffany’s Lucida Star Necklace to Priyanka Chopra’s jaw-dropping $25 million piece, here are some of the most memorable diamond jewelry looks from the event:
Dua Lipa
The English and Albanian singer wore an updated version of Tiffany’s Lucida Star Necklace, minus the iconic yellow Tiffany Diamond, according to IDEX Online.
As co-host of a red carpet event honoring the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” Lipa had the yellow gem replaced by a 100-carat D-color 82-facet cushion-cut stone known as “the Legendary Diamond,” cut to mirror the yellow diamond.
The original 128.54-carat center stone, worn over the years by Audrey Hepburn and Lady Gaga, sparked a “blood diamond” controversy when it was last worn by Beyoncé for an ad campaign in 2021. The stone was recovered in 1877 in South Africa and is currently estimated to be worth $30 million.
Priyanka Chopra
The Indian actress, singer, and film producer wore an exceptionally expensive loan by Sotheby’s – The “Bulgari Laguna Blu” – an 11.16-carat pear-shaped gem certified as the highest grade blue diamond ever by the GIA – set in Bulgari’s High Jewelry necklace.
The “Bulgari Laguna Blu” could sell for $25 million at Sotheby’s Geneva later this month (May 16) and is “destined to become the most valuable gem ever to be sold by Bulgari,” according to IDEX Online.
Olivier Wagner, head of jewelry at Sotheby’s Geneva, commented that the “Bulgari Laguna Blu” is the third-largest pear-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond ever to come to auction and that it is “an extraordinary gem in every way.”
Anne Hathaway
Bulgari’s global brand ambassador, Anne Hathaway, naturally opted to wear Bulgari as well, sporting the High Jewellery Monete necklace in yellow gold.
The necklace features one ancient Greek silver coin from Bulgari’s Monete collection, estimated to have been made in 400-350 B.C. The necklace also features pavé-set diamonds weighing a total of 34.85 carats.
Michaela Coel
The English actress and filmmaker, who co-hosted the event, opted to wear a piece created by British-Ghanaian jeweler Emefa Cole, together with SMO Gold – which uses fully transparent and traceable gold that shows the jewelry’s journey from mine to market.
Michaela wore the SMO Gold headpiece, earrings, and cocktail ring. According to reports, all of the gold in the pieces she wore was responsibly sourced in West Africa.
Michelle Yeoh
One of the coolest actors in the world looked stunning in Cartier’s [Sur]naturel High Jewelry transformable necklace and earrings, made of platinum and diamonds.
She complemented the look with the Étourdissant Cartier High Jewelry ring made of 18-karat white gold, diamonds, and onyx.
