Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of Alrosa, said that the company is “proud to present strong rough diamond sales results” for 2021, commenting that they exceeded 2020 levels by 50%, and 2019 levels by 21%.

The growth in 2021 was driven, according to Alrosa’s CEO, by “recovering demand for diamond jewelry in the key consumer markets in North America and Asia.” Agureev added that Alrosa is “generally positive about future demand for rough diamonds, given low stocks in the diamond pipeline and continued high demand from jewelry consumers.”

In December, the miner’s sales of rough and polished diamonds “slumped to $254 million in December, as it battled ‘rock bottom’ inventories,” IDEX Online reports. According to the report, Alrosa’s total sales for December “were  the lowest of the 2021 and down 51% year-on-year.”
