ALROSA HITS THE JACKPOT AT LATEST VLADIVOSTOK AUCTION

Russian mining giant Alrosa reported the results of the international auction for the sale of special size large diamonds (+10.8 carats), which was held in Vladivostok from April 16 to April 27. In total, 101 special size rough diamonds were sold with a total weight of 1751.1 carats, bringing Alrosa sales revenue of $14.8 million.

 

According to Evgeny Agureev, Director of USO ALROSA, the body in charge of preparing and selling rough diamonds for the company, said that 86 companies participated in the auction, including Hong Kong, Belgium, Israel and India, and 33 companies “won in different auction positions”. He added: “The auction has completed with a very good results, confirming high demand for this category of rough diamonds”.

 

Late last month, Alrosa reported that its diamond production for Q1 2018 totalled 7.4 million carats – down by 17% year-on-year. During the period, Alrosa sold 13.3 million carats of diamonds, including 10.1 million carats of gem-quality diamonds at an average price of $154 per carat, and 3.2 million carats of industrial diamonds at an average price of $8 per carat. Rough and polished diamond sales amounted to $1.582 billion and $23.7 million, respectively.
