Alrosa’s 5th Polished Auction of 2021 Brings “Record Results”

Russian diamond mining giant Alrosa has sold 98% of the diamonds put up for sale during its fifth auction for polished diamonds this year. 1,400 carats were sold, raking in almost $13 million, according to Alrosa.

The auction featured 49 exceptional polished diamonds weighing up to 28 carats, 284 diamonds weighing up to 17 carats and 17 batches of fancy yellow polished diamonds weighing up to 0.99 carat each. The auction, held during September and October, included showings in Dubai, the US and Israel with more than 50 companies from the US, Israel, the UAE, India, Belgium, Hong Kong, Japan and Russia taking part.

According to Pavel Vinikhin, Director of Diamonds of Alrosa cutting and polishing division, the 5th polished diamond auction “produced record results”. The sale , he said, “has set an absolute record of 98% of lots sold. From next year, we intend to increase the number of polished diamond auctions.”
