ALROSA’S LARGE ROUGH SALE IN NY RAKES IN $7.9 MILLION

Russian mining giant Alrosa has sold $7.9 million worth of special size rough diamonds (over 10.8 carats) at a recent auction in New York. In the auction, held from September 17 till October 5, Alrosa sold more than 90% lots with a total weight of over 1,300 carats.

According to the company, the auction “was attended by clients from the US, India, Israel, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates and others”. The sale, according to Director of the USO ALROSA Evgeny Agureev, was affected by the holidays, which resulted in some customers not attending.

The highlights of the sale were a white diamond with a yellow shade weighing almost 98 carats and a white diamond weighing 108 carats. Both stones, which were mined at the Yubileinaya pipe in Yakutiya, are “extremely rare in nature”, according to Agureev.
