DE BEERS’ SALES GO DOWN IN 6TH CYCLE OF THE YEAR

Anglo American has announced the value of rough diamond sales (Global Sightholder Sales and Auction Sales) for De Beers’ sixth sales cycle of 2018, amounting to $530 million. In the 6th cycle of 2017, De Beers’ diamond sales amounted to $576 million. In the 5th cycle of this year, De Beers’ diamond sales amounted to $581 million.

 

Bruce Cleaver, CEO of De Beers Group, said: “In the sixth sales cycle of the year, demand for De Beers rough diamonds was in line with expectations during the seasonally quieter summer period for the industry’s midstream sector”.

 

In the first half of 2018, De Beers’ underlying earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell 9% year-on-year to $712 million. Total revenue was $3.2 billion, slightly better than H1 2017 ($3.1 billion). Sales were flat year-on-year at $2.9 billion. Rough diamond production increased 8% to 17.5 million carats.
