Bouncing Back: India’s Polished Exports Way Up in January 2021

India’s diamond market continues to improve after a tough, COVID-hit year: According to Rough & Polished, India’s cut and polished diamond export increased 9.44% year-on-year in January, totaling $1.804 billion. In January, rough imports increased 64% to $1.2 billion.

From April 2020 to January 2021, polished diamond exports decreased almost 24% year-on-year, totalling $12.492 billion. Rough imports during that time fell 26% to $8 billion.

Polished Lab Grown Diamond (LGDs) exports totaled $72.18 million in January 2021, compared to $44.15 million in January 2020 – an increase of 63%. From April 2020 to January 2021, LGD exports rose 56% to total $558.71 million. Rough LGDs imports in January 2021 went up 103% to $86.21 million. From April 2020 to January 2021, rough LGDs exports totaled $452.43 million – a rise of 54%.
