Lucapa: Diamond Sales Fall 36% to $21.8 Million in Q2

Lucapa’s rough diamond sales slid 36% during the second quarter of the year to $21.8 million. At its Lulo mine in Angola, Lucapa reported a 47% drop in revenue to $15.6 million.

Its smaller mine, Mothae, in Lesotho, saw a 27% increase in revenue to $6.2 million. Rough price per carat across both mines fell 42% year-on-year.

Managing director Stephen Wetherall said: “Mining operations performed steadily during the quarter, however the inflationary and constrained supply environment impacted on Mothae in the first half. The second half of the year has started more strongly, and we continue to focus on optimizing plant throughputs and reducing costs in the current operating environment.”
