IDE MARKS THE MEMORIAL DAY FOR THE FALLEN SOLDIERS

The Israel Diamond Exchange marks the Memorial Day for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of Terrorism today, May 1, with a ceremony at the Trading Hall at 11 am.

 

The Memorial Day for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of Terrorism opened with a siren yesterday (Sunday) at 8 pm, followed by memorial services across the country. An official state ceremony was held at the Western Wall in Jerusalem and attended by the President of Israel Reuven Rivlin and the Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces Gadi Eizenkot.

 

Today (Monday) at 11 am, a two-minute siren will sound across the country, followed by official and private memorial services. At Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl national cemetery, there will be an official ceremony to unveil the Remembrance Hall for the country’s fallen soldiers. The ceremony will be attended by President Rivlin, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and senior ministers. The day officially ends at Mount Herzl between 7 and 8 pm with the ceremonial lighting of twelve torches, marking the beginning of Israel’s 69th Independence Day.

 

Since 1860, more than 27,000 men and women have fallen in defense of the State of Israel and the pre-state Jewish community, among them 23,544 IDF soldiers and 4,128 victims of terrorist attacks.
