ISRAEL CELEBRATES 69 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE

Israelis across the country celebrate Israel’s 69th Independence Day tonight. The official events start at 8 pm on May 1 with the ceremonial lighting of twelve torches at Mount Herzl, marking the beginning of the celebrations.

The Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Council for Conservation of Heritage Sites have announced that admittance to 69 heritage sites will be free of charge to the public throughout the day (May 2). The sites will hold special events, including guided tours, shows, exhibitions and numerous activities for families.

As happens every Independence Day, the Israeli Air Force arranges a special air show and fly-over which passes over 40 towns and cities, between 9:40 am and 2:30 pm on May 2.

In a ceremony held last week, 12 members of the Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association (IsDMA) were recognized for their contribution to the advancement of the Israeli diamond industry, and awarded the Diamond Industry Dignitary Award. The Israel Diamond Dignitary Award ceremony is held every two years to honor and recognize the men and women who have promoted the Israeli diamond industry.

During the ceremony, Minister of the Economy Eli Cohen said that the Israeli diamond industry is “a source of pride and integrity” for the country, adding that it is “one of the five industries which have shaped the Israeli economy” since the establishment of the State.

We offer our warmest wishes for our community of diamantaires and the people of Israel. Happy Independence Day!
