RECORD BREAKERS: THE DYNASTY COLLECTION ARRIVES AT ISRAEL

The Dynasty collection has arrived at the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE): Introduced by Alrosa in August 2016, the Dynasty is made up of five diamonds created from a 179-carat rough diamond named The Romanovs, and recovered from the Nyurbinskaya kimberlite pipe in Yakutia in 2015.

The centerpiece of the collection, also named The Dynasty, is a 51.38-carat traditional round brilliant-cut diamond – “the purest of all large diamonds manufactured throughout the Russian jewelry history”, according to Alrosa. It was graded Triple Excellent, D, VVS1 by the GIA – the highest grades for each category.

The Dynasty Diamond has already “toured” Vladivostok, Hong Kong and Moscow, accompanied by the Director and VP of Diamonds ALROSA and a PR team from Alrosa. The diamond will be presented to potential clients in Israel for four days, and then it will be moved to New York.

Pavel Vinikhin, Director of Diamonds ALROSA, said that the company is yet to determine a price for the diamonds in the collection: “We’ll set a minimum price after visiting New York”, commented Vinikhin, “I expect the largest diamond, The Dynasty, to receive high bids. Every diamond in the collection will be auctioned separately, but there is also the option for a single buyer to purchase the entire collection”.

Other diamonds in the collection include a 16.67-carat round brilliant-cut diamond, named The Sheremetevs; The Orlovs, a 5.05-carat oval diamond; The Vorontsovs, a 1.73-carat pear-cut diamond; and The Yusupovs, a 1.39-carat diamond.

The cutters and polishers of Alrosa worked on the collection for 18 months, resorting to laser sawing to release pressure from the original 179-carat stone. According to Vinikhin, “the cutters and polishers went through a long, stressful process due to the nature of the original crystal”.

The Dynasty collection constitutes a major landmark in Alrosa’s history, since this will be the first time the Russian miner will sell its polished diamonds online. For this purpose, Alrosa will set up a dedicated website, and plans to gradually transfer all of its polished diamonds for sale online.
