In December, Alrosa’s Udachny Mining and Processing Division recovered the first diamonds from the Verkhne-Munskoe deposit in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). According to press release, the commercial launch of the deposit is scheduled for 2018.
The next batch of ore from Verkhne-Munskoe deposit will arrive at the Processing Plant in the fourth quarter of 2018 as part of commercial development of the deposit.
According to the Russia mining giant, the development of Verkhne-Munskoe deposit is Alrosa’s largest investment project. The deposit is located 170 kilometers from Udachny Mining and Processing Division. Four kimberlite pipes have been explored so far.
In late December, Alrosa announced its plan to hold an open competition for design solutions to enable the resumption of diamond mining at Mir deposit, with the aim of “ensuring the complete safety of operations at Mir deposit”.
