CAR APPOINTS DIAMOND SPECIALIST PETER MEEUS AS ADVISOR

In line with its growing efforts of compliance with the standards of the Kimberley Process Certification System (KPCS), the government of the Central African Republic (CAR) has announced the appointment of diamond specialist Peter Meeus as a Special Advisor to the government, IDEX Online reports.

 

Meeus has had a distinguished career in the field: he helped found the KPCS, and he formerly acted as Head of the KP Monitoring Team for CAR. He also served as President of the Dubai Diamond Exchange, and he is a former Director General of the Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC).

 

According to a statement issued by the government, Meeus will be advising and assisting the CAR government “on all matters relating to the implementation of this process, in particular by proposing performance-enhancing measures”.
