AUSTRALIA LOOKING TO REOPEN ELLENDALE DIAMOND MINE

Will the Ellendale diamond mine in the Kimberley region of Western Australia be able to get back to its glory days? According to a report in Diamond World, the Western Australian Government has reportedly sought expressions of interest (EOIs) to reopen and operate the mine.

The EOIs submitted will be evaluated by a panel from the Department of Mines and Petroleum and the winning company will be invited to apply for a new mining lease. Interested parties can submit their EOI by November 30, and the official decision will be announced in early 2019.

Ellendale, which was mined by Kimberley Diamond Company (KDC) between 2002 and 2015, “previously provided about half of the world’s highly-valued fancy yellow diamonds”, according to the report . it is located 120km east of Derby in the West Kimberley region.
