Letšeng Strikes Again: Gem Unearths 213-Carat Diamond

Gem Diamonds has discovered an enormous 212.91-carat Type II white diamond at the Letšeng mine in Lesotho. This is the second diamond over 100 carats that Gem has unearthed recently, following the discovery of a 126.21-carat Type II diamond on September 6.

Since the beginning of the year, Gem has found 13 diamonds weighing over 100 carats. This has been an exceptionally successful year for the Letšeng mine, which typically produces an average of eight such diamonds annually, compared to only five in 2023.

The relatively high number of these discoveries has helped Gem boost its revenue in the first half of the year to $78 million. The Letšeng mine, 70% owned by Gem and 30% by the government of Lesotho, is known for having the highest average price per carat of diamonds in the world.
