GEM DIAMONDS BREAKS RECORD WITH 12TH 100+ CARAT DIAMOND

Gem Diamonds has announced the recovery of a 138 carat, top white colour Type IIa diamond from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho.

This latest diamond, the 12th diamond of over 100 carats in 2018, is a milestone for the company, breaking the record number of diamonds of over 100 carats recovered in a year. At the end of July, Gem Diamonds recovered a 100.5 carat, top white colour Type IIa diamond from Letšeng – the eleventh diamond of over 100 carats recovered in 2018.

This is the second record broken by Gem Diamonds in August. Earlier this month, the miner reported its diamond production and sales report for the first half of the year (ended June 30). Gem Diamonds generated tender revenues of $169.2 million – a record for the company. It sold 61,696 carats for an average price of $2,742 per carat – up 33% from the second half of 2017.
