MERLIN TO DRILL 40 NEW TARGETS IN SEARCH FOR KIMBERLITES

Australian miner Merlin Diamonds has begun to drill anew at its Merlin Diamond Mine. According to Rough & Polished, the drilling is focused on “40 priority targets out of 74 potential ones to identify undiscovered kimberlites”.

According to the company, the “Merlin Mine Lease has been largely underexplored”, and has the potential to hold “many more undiscovered kimberlite pipes”. The 40 priority targets are similar in their geophysical and geochemical signatures to known Merlin kimberlite pipes.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Merlin has unearthed two pink diamonds, “one weighing 0.039 carats and the second weighing 0.025 carats” from the mine. In a statement, the company said it is “encouraged by these discoveries that indicate the possibility of further pink diamonds at the Merlin diamond mine”.
