RUSSIA TO FINE UNAUTHORIZED PRODUCTION OF SEMIPRECIOUS GEMS

The Russian government has signed Federal Law No. 414-FZ, which established an administrative fine for unauthorized extraction of jade or other semiprecious stones, according to Rough & Polished. Sizes of administrative fines for unauthorized extraction, transportation or storage of illegally extracted amber have also been raised.

 

The fine address “unauthorized production, transportation or storage for sale of jade or other semiprecious stones if such actions do not contain a criminal offense”.

 

The fine will be given progressively in accordance with the offender. Citizens will pay a fine in the amount of RUB 200,000-5000,000 ($3480-$8700); officials will pay RUB 500,000-800,000 ($8700-$13,920); legal entities will pay RUB 10 million to 60 million ($174,000-$1,044,000). The law also addresses the confiscation of the instrument for committing an offense.
